Bay Harbour Market

If you have never heard of the Hout Bay Harbour market, are you even from Cape Town? This amazing market that takes place all year round and all weekend as delicious food, beautiful live music, bank breaking stores and entertaining acts walking around. This market has all sorts, it is extremely diverse which makes it (personally) one of the best markets in Cape Town. This market is indoors which means it is perfect to attend on those rainy winter days upon us this winter, running on a Friday at 5pm-9pm and on Saturday & Sunday at 9:30am-4pm. I attended the market this past weekend, and it was the first time I attended on a Friday evening. I was surprised to see the market just as busy as it is on a Saturday or Sunday.

The Market offers so many food stores, it makes it so difficult to choose what to eat. If you like me and just want to eat everything you see, this can make it that much more difficult when it comes to time to choose what to eat. I highly recommend that you walk around to each and every food store and take a good look before you order, there is so much to offer, it is so worth spending the whole day and eating as much as you can. I have been to this market a few times and each time I take advantage of the tastings and try to order two small meals for myself, or order four meals and share them among my friends. This allows you to indulge in a lot of different food and make the most of the food stores. This past weekend I ate a halloumi cheese salad from my favorite food store 'Bon-Amie made@home'.

If you are a later raiser and like to sleep in on your weekend, Bon-Amie made@home offer an all-day 'build your own' breakfast, and sorts of extraordinary meals such as traditional South African fayre such as Sringbok and Gemsbok.

I then tried a food store I have never eaten from before at this market, Tao's Chinese Kitchen. I LOVE sweet and sour with egg fried race, I just love asian food in general, its my absolute favourite. One thing you must know is I am EXTREMELY fussy, so I have very high standards you could say, (this could be argued as its matter of opinion) but one thing I know for sure is this was the best dam sweet & sour I have every had! What made this even better was it was proper egg fried rice.

After these two filling meals, my sweet tooth kicked in and it was time for dessert. I earlier saw a young girl walk past me with a delicious looking waffle and I was determined to have one. I had an amazing traditional styled Belgian waffle with ice-cream and nutella.

If you are ever at home on a rainy day this winter, I suggest you make your way to the Bay harbour market for an awesome day.
